Welcome to Metro Aberdeen Running Club

Metro were founded in 1990 and in the first year the membership was 34, now we have a membership of around 10 times that.

Over the years, Metro has been at the forefront of road running, cross country, ultra and hill racing all over Scotland and abroad. Our members wear the vest with pride and fly the flag for the club in far flung corners of the world where some have even gone on to represent Scotland and GB with great distinction. That said, every Metro member has an important role to play, whether featuring in races, helping organise an event, volunteering at races or cheering other members on in their efforts. We are always looking for new members to join us. We do suggest that prior to joining the club, new members should be able to continuously run for 5 miles. However, this does not mean you have to be the fastest person alive to join and get involved. One of the biggest reasons people are disinclined to join is that they believe ‘they aren’t fast enough’. This is not true - we welcome people of ALL abilities

The club has two dedicated training sessions each week which are detailed in our scheduled training page with a Tuesday at Aberdeen Sports Village on Linksfield Road. We meet in the foyer from 6pm and are ready to run at 6.30pm. On Thursdays we meet at the Hazlehead Park, Groats Road entrance car park ready to go at 6pm. We do a structured session to help regardless of the standard you are at.

Throughout the year we organise several local races from 3k to 1/ 2 marathon, social runs during the summer and headtorch runs during the winter along with many long runs on a Sunday, details of which can be found on our scheduled training page or on our Member’s Only Facebook page.

In addition to all this, you will meet a lot of new people and make a lot of new friends!

If you would like to join, please visit our Join Us page and for more information please email admin@metroaberdeen.co.uk
